Packing Guide

Make sure you clearly write your name and destination on every box.

VOOVit boxes are strong and specially designed for our shipping methods.

Other boxes may not be as strong.

Plastic storage boxes are not suitable for shipping.

Even VOOVit boxes can split if you over-load them.
Share heavy items such as books and papers between all of your boxes. Make sure there is no movement in the box.

Do not over stuff the boxes with clothes and other soft items.

  • Pack as much as you can as early as you can.
  • Pack boxes firmly to prevent the contents from shifting during your move
  • Distribute weight evenly amongst boxes. Keep the weight under 30kg per box.
  • Don't put all of your books in one box, it is likely to be too heavy.
  • Pack records and CDs vertically in boxes. Don't stack them flat.
  • Use towels or clothes to pad boxes of fragile items.
  • Tape all of the seams on your boxes.
  • Wrap each item in the parcel individually
This takes a little longer, but offers better protection when there's no movement of contents.
  • Protect fragile items on their journey
Expanded polystyrene chips; polythene foam; bubble wrap air cushions or crumpled paper around all items is a good cushion against knocks and vibration.
  • Seal the parcel well
Make a ‘H' seal with the VOOVit tape we send to you or any reinforced carton tape on both the top, bottom and edges of your package. Ordinary household adhesive tape isn't usually strong enough.
  • Transporting electrical items
When transporting electrical items - e.g. laptops, DVD players etc - please make sure that they have the original manufacturer's transport screws properly secured to ensure that elements/components do not move.
  • Shipping a computer.
    • Backup Your Data
Be sure to back up all of your important files and programs. Store the backup disks with your original program disks and keep in a secure container. Remove all floppy diskettes, cd-roms, tapes, etc. (Some older computers will have hard disk head parking utilities. If so, park the hard disk drive.)
    • Shut Down and Disconnect
Shutdown your computer before turning it off or unplugging any cables.
      Carefully unplug all power cables.
Carefully unplug all cables to peripheral devices.

Make note as to what devices the cables were plugged into by writing it on a piece of masking tape and attaching the tape to the cable.
Carefully move the monitor (for packing) as it can be heavy and awkward to move.
Disconnect the printer and remove ink cartridges, laser cartridge, or ribbon. Unplug and mark the cables as noted above.

PROTECT THE COMPUTER EQUIPMENT AGAINST PHYSICAL JARRING AND SHOCK.

The original box your computer and peripheral devices came in is the best choice for packing for your move. The rigid Styrofoam or formed cardboard packing material will hold the equipment securely in place.

If you can't pick the box up and carry it - it is too heavy!
